Common description
Also known as Asphalt or Salt - one of the unique natural reservoirs that exist on Earth. It is located 20 km from Jerusalem, 84 km from Tel Aviv and 360 km from Eilat. This is the lowest point of our planet, located at a depth of 417 m below sea level, in the intercontinental depression formed during the split of Eurasia and Africa.
The Dead Sea is actually a huge lake. Its length is 45 km, its maximum width is 15 km, its depth is 400 m. It is the most saline basin in the world: the salt concentration here reaches 33%, 340 grams per liter, which is 10 times higher than in the Mediterranean Sea. Thanks to this, it’s practically impossible to drown in the Dead Sea, so you don’t need to exert any efforts to stay on its surface. The high salt content makes the Dead Sea water heavy, viscous and oily, resembling a brine, but at the same time transparent. In this environment, not a single living organism can survive, there are not even algae, therefore, in fact, the lake got its name. After bathing in the Dead Sea, it is recommended to take a shower immediately.
The water level in the pond is supported by Jordan runoff, coastal streams, and rainfall during the rainy season. Not a single river or even a small stream flows from the lake itself.
The healing properties of the Dead Sea have been known since ancient times. Archaeologists conducting excavations in the area have discovered an ancient cosmetic factory evidence that the great Egyptian Queen Cleopatra used its “products”.
Dead Sea water contains more than 20 types of salts and minerals, from bromine and chlorine to rare metals. The composition of salts is not characteristic of other seas and cannot be reproduced artificially. The air of these places is also unique: in the atmosphere above the lake contains 10% more oxygen than over any other body of water, in addition, there is no flower dust and other allergens in the air, so it breathes easily and freely. In this place of the globe the highest ozone layer. Due to the unusually large evaporation of water, the air over the Dead Sea is saturated with healing vapors, which, together with an additional 400 meters of the atmosphere, filter out and trap harmful sunlight, creating an ideal UV ratio, which makes prolonged exposure to the sun harmless to health.
The "calling card" of the Dead Sea is also a special black mud. Wraps with it have a favorable cosmetic and therapeutic effect, stimulate the skin and improve blood circulation.
The warm climate of the Dead Sea, 330 sunny days a year, thermal and mineral springs, healing mud have unique healing properties. Swimming in the Dead Sea provides an unforgettable sensation, has a calming effect on the skin, improves the functioning of the circulatory system, reduces rheumatic pain and metabolic disorders, starts a number of biochemical processes that lead to the rejuvenation of the whole body, and eliminates many diseases: psoriasis, neurodermatitis, eczema and other skin problems, diseases of the musculoskeletal system, bronchitis, asthma, ENT, endocrinological, neurological pathologies, etc.
