Any bank in South Africa will exchange any amount of currency upon presentation of your passport. It is better to exchange currency at the airport or in a bank, rather than in a hotel, where the rand exchange rate is always low. In stores you can pay with basic credit cards. Most cash banks are Travelers Checks.
