The Republic of South Africa is located in the Southern Hemisphere, the seasons are directly opposite to the Northern Hemisphere. In winter, the temperature can drop to 0 and -1 at night, and during the day in bright sunlight rises to +16 and even +20. The rest of the year is a sunny hot summer. In the Johannesburg area in the summer in the afternoon there are short-term showers.
The climate in southern South Africa is mostly Mediterranean. Closer to the north it is much hotter and drier. Durban has a subtropical climate, where you can sunbathe and swim even in winter. It may be colder in Cape Town due to its proximity to Antarctica. Sometimes it even snows here. Snow is not uncommon in the Drakensberg Mountains. Summer is good for any type of recreation, winter - especially favorable for safaris and hunting.

Currency

The official currency in South Africa is the rand. It is issued in the form of banknotes of 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200 rand denominations. Any bank in South Africa will exchange any amount of currency upon presentation of your passport. It is better to exchange currency at the airport or in a bank, rather than in a hotel, where the rand exchange rate is always low. In stores you can pay with basic credit cards. Most cash banks are Travelers Checks.
